Check out the flaming red stigma. As the sun was setting these Hawaiian yellow hibiscus were glowing golden in my garden in Bradenton, Florida. These beauties never disappoint, and the center was flaming in the setting sun.
The striking and beautiful Hawaiian native yellow hibiscus, (Hibiscus brackenridgei,) known as the pua aloalo (also called ma`o-hau-hele) in the Hawaiian language, is the Hawaii state flower.
Yellow hibiscus (Hibiscus brackenridgei) is a flowering shrub that grows on all the Hawaiian islands except Ni'ihau and Kaho'olawe. All three subspecies of the yellow hibiscus are listed as endangered species. Even in Hawaii, the plant is rare.
Hawaii's state flower originated in Asia and the Pacific islands. Interestingly, it is also the national flower of Malaysia.
