Description
In memory of my late father-in-law, Al Bassett, and his daughter, my wife Pat. This image shows Al’s picture at age 92 a few months before he died, as he received the Honor Pin for his service in the army in WWII. He was one of many who fought in the battle of Bunker Hill. His ashes were preserved in the glass memento which sits on a light and the light projects through it upward to his image.
Beyond that he was my “surrogate” father after my own father died in 1986 and meant a lot to me over the years. His ever present quiet spirit in the last years meant a lot, and was especially on my mind this Memorial Day. In the end he suffered with Parkinson's Disease and was on Hospice. My wife is a Hospice nurse and received this cup shown by her fathers memorial in honor to them both for their service.
The shells in this tribute represent how much going to the beach and the ocean here meant to him. He would go there with my mother-in-law, Esther, as often as possible, even into his 90s.

That's beautiful, Gary. What a tribute to your father-in-law. He sounds like an incredible man. And to your wife. It takes a very special person to be a hospice nurse.
